[HKML] Hong Kong Machine Learning Meetup Season 1 Episode 11

When?

  • Wednesday, June 15, 2019 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Where?

This meetup was sponsored by Clover Health, a data-driven health insurance startup based out of San Francisco. Clover Health has opened an office in Hong Kong, and is currently hiring Machine Learning / Natural Language Processing engineers. Clover Health offered the location, drinks and snacks. Thanks to them, and in particular to Cindy Wong for helping organizing.

Thanks also to my colleague Jian Shen from Shell Street Labs, who kindly accepted to run the meetup while I was abroad for ICML 2019!

Programme:

David Zhu, CTO at Clover International

David presented the data and machine learning efforts at Clover Health. They are hiring.

Benoit Goujon from Thales - How to help metro operators improve passenger experience using machine learning?

Benoit presented his R&D work at Thales. He uses various time series forecasting models to predict the number of passengers in the train, and related quantities. His future work will incorporate the topology of the metro network into account so that combined with entries/exit, he obtains a better estimation.

His slides can be found there.

I wonder whether the new time series forecasting toolkit from Amazon GluonTS can help him. This new package incorporates a lot of recent sota bayesian deep net models.

Pranav Agrawal - Neural Paraphrasing

Pranav is doing a bunch of interesting research on his spare time (cf. his publications, e.g. his ACL-SRW paper, and his GitHub).

There, his slides.
